Florida Eye Associates is the only practice in Brevard county offering FDA-approved Corneal Cross-Linking which slows or halts the progression of keratoconus, a condition that weakens and thins the cornea over time.
Keratoconus causes the cornea to bulge into a cone-like shape, leading to distorted vision. In the early stages, eyeglasses or contact lenses may help, but as the condition progresses, increased visual distortion can make daily activities difficult.
Corneal Cross-Linking strengthens the cornea by using ultraviolet (UV) light and specially formulated riboflavin eye drops. The procedure creates new collagen bonds within the corneal tissue, stabilizing its structure and helping to preserve vision.
The procedure is minimally invasive and performed in-office. It is typically recommended for patients with progressive keratoconus, particularly teens and young adults, who are most at risk for rapid changes.
